Two Sobriety Checkpoints Planned in Covina Friday, Saturday

Multiple agencies from around the Valley are teaming up to educate drivers about the do's and don'ts of drunk driving while removing dangerous drivers from the road.

Local police agencies and the California Highway Patrol have planned back-to-back sobriety checkpoints set for Friday and Saturday in Covina.

The Friday evening event is being coordinated by the agencies from Glendora, Azusa, Covina, La Verne, and Pomona at an undisclosed location in Covina, according to Glendora PD.

The checkpoint is part of the , which educates the public about the dangers of drunk driving while removing dangerous drivers from the road.

On Saturday, the CHP will be conducting their own event, to be held in an unincorporated area of Covina. The CHP checkpoint has the same goal, with the addition of removing unlicensed drivers from the road, according to the CHP.

The checkpoint will be conducted from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Officials note that such checkpoints in problem areas help to reduce the number of drunk drivers on the road, although arrest totals do not rise dramatically, saying that the psychological factor adds to the value of sobriety checkpoints.
