Theft Suspects Give Chase to Officers, Eventually Caught

Suspects arrested are implicated in a Walmart theft from hours earlier, police said.

Five theft suspects were taken into custody after leading and Sheriff's deputies on a foot pursuit into Oakdale Memorial Park early Sunday.

Arrested were Alfanzo Garcia, 20, Fransisco Ferrer, 20, and Jose Castillas, 20. Ferrer and Castillas are being held in lieu of $20,000 bail. The two were also booked on suspicion of obstructing an officer, while Garcia was booked on suspicion of obstructing an officer and was issued a citation.

Two juveniles, ages 16-17, were also arrested on suspicion of obstructing an officer.

Glendora Police were called by Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies around 3:21 a.m. near West Gladstone Street and Grand Avenue, according to authorities. Glendora Police were unable to say the nature of the deputies' inquiry into the five subjects, but the suspects eventually ran from authorities.

The suspects reportedly all ran towards the area of , 1401 South Grand Avenue, said Sergeant Scott Strong. Several of the suspects were found in the cemetery, while Ferrer and Garcia were reportedly located north of Oakdale in the 1300 block of South Vecino Avenue.

Officers later discovered the suspects were in possession of stolen property from an earlier theft from Walmart.

According to police records, the most recent theft from Walmart was reported at 11:09 p.m., May 5. According to scanner reports, several subjects fled with a case of beer and a vacuum cleaner. It was unknown if the five suspects were connected to that crime.
