Tanker Truck Ignites On 210 Freeway

Sig Alert was issued while fire crews worked to extinguish blaze.

UPDATED: 2:19 a.m.: The CHP has opened the HOV and No. 1 lanes of the eastbound 210 near the tanker fire. The Grand Avenue onramp eastbound has also been opened, according to the CHP.

The No. 2, 3 and 4 lanes near the fire will remained closed for an hour as CalTrans crews work to remove the fuel.

UPDATED, 2:11 a.m.: CalTrans crews arrived and began unloading fuel from the tanker, according to the CHP. The Sunflower Avenue onramp at the 210 was shut down again.

UPDATED, 1:43 a.m.: CHP officials requested Glendora Police to re-open the 210 eastbound onramp at Sunflower Avenue. The Sig Alert was extended for another 30 minutes, according to the CHP.

PREVIOUSLY: A portion of a tanker truck ignited early Monday morning on the Interstate 210 freeway eastbound, forcing closure of all eastbound lanes at Grand Avenue.

The fire ignited some time around 12:15 a.m. near the Sunflower Avenue onramp, According to California Highway Patrol traffic logs, the fire was mainly contained to the tire area of the tanker. Fire officials requested Glendora Police to divert traffic off the freeway  at Sunflower Avenue. The westbound side remained open while crews worked to make sure the fire was completely out.

It is not known exactly what may be in the tanker. It was not immediately known if there are any injuries.

Just before 1 a.m. the CHP issued a Sig Alert with a full closure of eastbound lanes at Grand Avenue for 30 minutes, according to the CHP. The Sunflower Avenue onramp was closed as well.

As of 1:38 a.m. officials attempted to open up the HOV and No. 1 lanes. Specialists with the LA County Fire Health Hazerdous Materials Division also arrived on scene.

According to scanner reports, fire fighters were confident the structural integrity of the tanks was maintained, but the biggest hurdle was the quick removal of the tanker.
