Suspect in Claremont Chase Still At Large

Authorities were still searching for the man hours after the end of a chase that went from the borders of Upland/Claremont to Pacoima.

Authorities were still searching for a man who jumped from a truck following a long pursuit that started on the westbound Interstate 210 along the border of Claremont and Upland.

As of 8:30 p.m., the suspect has been able to elude police despite being followed by a police helicopter and several press helicopters.

The chase started at 4:46 p.m. today at Base Line Road when a California Highway Patrol officer tried to pull a red pick up over for a tinted window violation. According to a CHP spokesman, the driver sped off.

According to several media reports, the truck sped onto the 170 Freeway near the Interstate 5, where it got off and went into Arleta.

Three people were reported to be inside the vehicle. A woman, then a man jumped from the vehicle and ran during the chase, according to television reports. Those two individuals were taken into custody, according to NBC LA News.

The driver finally abandoned the vehicle in a Pacoima neighborhood where he ran into a line of trees and disappeared.

Search dogs were at the scene, but the suspect remains at large.
