Suspect Arrested For Stealing Woman's Purse While She Visited Late Son's Grave

Deanna Mae Hooper, 33, of Glendora, allegedly used the victim's credit card in several cities.

While Teresa Hemsley placed flowers on her late son’s grave at Oakdale Cemetery in Glendora July 27, her purse was stolen from her vehicle.

Immediately afterwards, her credit card was used at several locations in Covina, Chino and Baldwin Park.

Using surveillance footage from these locations, Glendora Police detectives were able to identify the suspect as Deanna Mae Hooper, 33, of Glendora. Hooper was on probation for four prior criminal convictions.

According to a statement by Lt. Brian Summers, Hooper can be seen fraudulently using the victim’s stolen credit card.

Hooper was arrested Aug. 14 near a Covina motel.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed five felony counts against Hooper for commercial burglary and identity theft. 

Hooper pled no contest to one count each of commercial burglary and identity theft on Aug. 16.  She was sentenced to three days in the Los Angeles County Jail and three years of felony probation. 

According to Summers, Hooper was given credit for time served and released from custody the same day.
