Suicide Suspected In Case Of Man Ran Over By Train in Covina

A man died in Covina after hiding behind a utility shed and jumping onto the train tracks. A month ago, another boy died in the same way in the city.

Authorities were investigating on Wednesday the possible suicide of a man who hid behind a MetroLink utility shed near a railroad crossing in Covina, and was ran over by a train after jumping onto the tracks.

The fatal incident comes only a month after in the same city.

According to Sgt. Ray Marquez, spokesperson for the Covina Police Department, the incident was reported around 10:10 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, in the crossing near Sunflower Ave., north of Covina Blvd.

"The subject concealed himself behind a MetroLink utility shed, located just west of the Sunflower Avenue railroad crossing," said Sgt. Marquez in a press release. "He jumped from behind the utility shed onto the railroad tracks as the westbound train traveled at approximately 60 mph," he added.

The train impacted the victim and caused fatal injuries. Authorities still haven't identified the man, but he has been described as being white, around 40 years old.

It was also reported that passengers of the train were placed in buses to complete their trips, and that service was momentarily re-routed.

It's sad that people commit suicide like this. They have no idea how it affects others (family, friends, and those who witness it). What a terrible tragedy! If only they would seek help when they feel suicidal.

Are reporters taught to be brain dead in reporter school? """who hid""" How would they know what the dead man was doing? Looking at the crossing with sight lines good for a 2 mph track the man could have been taking a leak one way and the other he would have been on the sidewalk of the 98% sight obstructed crossing. 1. The train has video of this --- a public paid for thing ---Where is the video??? 2. The train had a event recorder of brakes, lights, horns, etc...public paid for with humongous overcharges---Where are the event recorder readings??? 3. The crossing signal housing has a event recorder with gate operation ---.public paid for with humongous overcharges---Where is the crossing house readings? 4. The crossing maintainer has a hand held that would show if the automated signals were calling him/her to come fix them. Where is the hand held??? 5. The drug/alcohol tests on the train crew are?
