Slain Officer Honored in Annual Charity Golf Tournament

Spots are filling up fast for the annual tournament honoring Glendora's Agent Louie Pompei.

Community members are invited to register in next month’s annual charity golf tournament in honor of fallen officer .

The Louie Pompei Memorial Golf Tournament will take lace July 16 at the . Registration will begin at 11 a.m. with the tournament to begin at noon.

Registration is $150, with proceeds from the tournament going toward local charities and the California Peace Officer’s Memorial Foundation, a charity helping families of fallen officers.

The tournament is limited to 144 players and spots tend to fill up quickly.

The tournament will include lunch and a dinner at after.

Agent Pompei, 30, was an eight-year veteran of Glendora Police when the off-duty officer was killed at a San Dimas Vons store during a robbery attempt June 9, 1995.

Pompei, a well-loved officer in the department, was shot and killed during a shoot-out with two armed teenaged suspects.

Pompei was able to wound two of the suspects , but he suffered fatal wounds.  The suspects were later arrested, tried and sentenced to life in prison. For more information, call 626-260-1664, or e-mail jcaldwell@glendorapd.org.
