Sheriff's Data Shows Most Crimes Down Countywide

Criminal homicides, grand theft autos and arson among some of the biggest decreases.

The Los Angeles County Sheriffs released preliminary data Oct. 7 and reported declines in overall crime across Sheriff patrol areas.

From 2010 to Sept. 2011, reported incidents of violent crimes were down by nearly 13 percent in the nine-month period, while serious property crimes declined a modest 3.5 percent in that same time. Violent crimes decreased more then 14.5 percent since 2006.

Violent crimes include criminal homicide, forcible rape, robbery and aggravated assault.

Criminal homicides decreased dramatically by almost 44 percent since 2006, the largest decrease in 44 years.

Under property crimes arsons decreased by over 44 percent since 2006, while grand theft autos decreased by 33.5 percent.

As reflected in county statistics, to be also low, although larceny, property crime and theft were the most common offenses.
