Pomona Woman Arrested for Smuggling Marijuana into Juvenile Camp

Authorities allege mother of a ward at the camp had bundles of marijuana hidden in purse.

A Pomona resident was arrested Saturday after San Dimas Sheriffs deputies alleged she tried to smuggle marijuana into a local juvenile probation camp.

Rhonda Gonzales, 44, of Pomona, was arrested and booked on suspicion of bringing narcotics into Camp Glenn Rockey Juvenile Probation Camp in San Dimas. Deputies said they found multiple bundles of marijuana and a falsified medical marijuana card. The items were found in Gonzales' purse, deputies said.

The suspect has a son at the camp, authorities said.

The suspect was also arrested for an outstanding warrant from the city of Bellflower. Gonzales was booked at the Century Regional Detention Facility and bail was set at $35,000.

Officials have stated that in the past several months they have noticed an increase in illegal drugs smuggled into the camp and that additional resources were needed to combat smuggling.

Deputies with the Special Assignment Team from the San Dimas Sheriff's Station aided camp officials with the Saturday searches, authorities said. Vehicles in the camp parking lot were searched during business hours along with visitors waiting to see loved ones.

According to officials, signs notifying visitors that they are subject to search and the criminal violations associated with such offenses are posted.

Glenn Rockey, located on Sycamore Canyon Road in San Dimas about a mile east of Glendora, receives as many as 60 to 70 families during the weekend seeking to visit probation camp wards.
