Police Chase Down Suspects in Glendora Neighborhood

The two suspects led police in a pursuit in a stolen vehicle before abandoning the car and leading them on a foot chase that lasted throughout the night.

Residents in Glendora were awakened to sounds of a police helicopter and officers swarming a Glendora neighborhood near Citrus College early Tuesday morning when a  police pursuit of two suspects in a stolen vehicle and subsequent a foot chase lasted throughout the night.

At around 1 a.m., California Highway Patrol came upon a 2006 Dodge Caravan for speeding near Covina. When the officer ran the license plate, he discovered the vehicle had been reported stolen in West Covina, said CHP Officer Miguel Luevano.

The driver of the vehicle then sped off. Only several minutes later, the driver and the passenger abandoned the vehicle near a Lutheran church on Alosta in Glendora, and led police on a foot chase into a nearby neighborhood.

Glendora and Azusa Police set up a perimeter, while a Los Angles County Sheriff air unit and an El Monte Police canine unit were dispatched to the scene.

At 2:36 a.m., the driver of the vehicle was detained by police after he had been discovered hiding in a resident’s backyard on Amber Oaks.

Law enforcement agencies did not find the second suspect until an off-duty Glendora deputy spotted the suspect near his front yard on Oakbank and Newhill at 5:43 a.m., said Glendora Police Lieutenant Brian Summers.

The driver of the vehicle, 26, was taken to the Inmate Reception Center in Downtown Los Angeles and booked for theft and unlawful taking of vehicle.  He was treated for some canine bites received during the police chase.

Officers are currently interviewing the second suspect.
