Police Blotter: Video Game Theft, Road Safety & a WWII Hand Grenade

Police activity or the week of Aug. 29 to Sept. 4.

The following information was supplied by the Glendora Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, Aug. 29: Lt. Joe Ward on duty.

  • At 1:27 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of an attempt to defraud an innkeeper at 200 West Mauna Loa Avenue. Officers arrested Joseph Jenkins, 20, city unknown, on suspicion of defrauding an innkeeper for $400 in violation of parole. He was held without bail.
  • At 10:31 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 1000 block of West Foothill Avenue. After questioning several subjects they arrested Jeffrey Fonda, 33, city unknown on suspicion of possession of and being under the influence of methamphetamine. Bail was set at $2,500.
  • Glendora Police responded to reports of graffiti at 10:21 a.m. and 11:25 a.m. In both cases, block walls were sprayed. The first incident occurred at the intersection of North Glendora Mountain Road and Sierra Madre Avenue. The second was in the 900 block of West Gladstone Avenue.
  • Glendora Police responded to reports of shoplifting at 2:43 p.m. (Kohl’s Department Store, 1225 South Lone Hill Ave.) 2:51 p.m. (Sports Chalet, 940 South Grand Ave.) and 3:09 p.m. (Wal-Mart, 1950 Auto Center Drive.) At Kohl’s, officers arrested Theresa Munoz, 40, city unknown, on suspicion of shoplifting. Bail was $500. She was detained outside the store. At Sports Chalet, police arrested two minors, both 17, on suspicion of shoplifting, Ward said. At Wal-Mart, officers arrested Jana Walker, 43, of West Covina on suspicion of theft in a receipt scam, Ward said. She had a prior offense, so bail was set at $20,000.

Tuesday, Aug. 30: Lt. Rob Lamborghini on duty.

  • At 10:31 a.m. Glendora Police responded to an incident at Glendora High School, 1600 East Foothill Blvd. Officers arrested a 14-year-old girl for hitting another juvenile.

Wednesday, Aug. 31: Lt. Rob Lamborghini on duty.

  • Glendora Police responded to reports of graffiti at 7:41 a.m. (300 block of West Mauna Loa Avenue) 8:39 a.m. (800 block of West Baseline Road) and 9:08 a.m. (500 block of West Citrus Edge Street). They occurred in the same general area, but it is not known if they are related, Lamborghini said.

Thursday, Sept. 1: Lt. Jaime Caldwell on duty.

  • At 12:35 a.m., at 649 West Arrow Highway, Caldwell reported. Both the sign and a planter were damaged, Caldwell said. The suspect took off running from the car, but was later found hunkered down in the bathroom at a nearby convalescent hospital. Officers arrested Cindy Miranda, 18, on hit-and-run charges.
  • With children headed back to school, police units are concentrating on to keep youngsters on the streets safe. “They are watching for moving violations that endanger children,” Caldwell said. On 9-1, Saturation Patrol units were in the area of Sandberg Middle School and La Fetra Elementary School near the intersection of Bennett and Grand avenues. From 6:25 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. patrol officers pulled over 25 vehicles for various moving violations.

Friday, Sept. 2: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 3:02 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a disturbance caused by a car horn honking persistently. A homeowner called police who arrested the driver, Jessica Garcia, 34, city unknown, on suspicion of being under the influence of methamphetamine and possessing paraphernalia, Summers said.
  • At 8:21 p.m. Glendora Police noticed a reckless driver in the area of the Avoid the 100 DUI checkpoint at Irwindale Avenue and Ornelas Street, Azusa. Glendora officers were participating at the Azusa checkpoint location. They arrested Martin Martinez, 47, city unknown, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving in a parking lot.
  • A hunch led to an arrest of a from Wal-Mart, 1950 Auto Center Drive. At 8:36 p.m. Glendora Police arrested Matthew Hodson, 21, at a home in the 100 block of South Wabash Avenue. He was charged with burglary and bail was set at $20,000.

Saturday, Sept. 3: Lt. Jamie Caldwell on duty.

  • At 3:21 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a suspicious occupied vehicle at the intersection of Essex Street and Sunflower Avenue. They arrested Rebekah Truax, 24, city unknown, on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Bail was set at $5,000.
  • At 9:12 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a vehicle burglary in the 1300 block of West Gladstone Street. They learned that a third-row seat had been stolen from a Chevrolet Tahoe vehicle.

Sunday, Sept. 4: Sgt Matt Williams on duty.

  • A Glendora man received a scare when he discovered a hand The man, working in the 1100 Block of East Bradford Drive, contacted Glendora Police at 10:48 a.m. and police then called in the Los Angeles County Bomb Squad.  The squad determined that the hang grenade was from World War II and that the explosives and firing pin had been removed.
  • At 1:34 p.m., Glendora Police responed to a report of graffiti in the 700 block of ADA Avenue. Graffiti was painted on a curb.
