Police Blotter: Injury Car Crash, Pointing Lasers & a High Speed Chase

Police activity for the week of June 6 to June 12.

The following information was supplied by the Glendora Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, June 6: Lt. Rob Lamborghini on duty.

  • At 5:11 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a bicycle stolen from near the intersection of East Route 66 and Loraine Ave.

Tuesday, June 7: Lt. Joe Ward on duty.

  • At 1:41 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a man with a gun in the 300 block of West Bennett Ave. Officers learned that a male, 18, was despondent and in possession of a handgun. They took the man into custody for his own safety, Ward said. They recovered the handgun and had the man evaluated at a mental hospital, Ward said.

Wednesday, June 8: Sgt. Matt Williams on duty.

  • A two-year-old girl was critically injured in the accident. Her mother sustained a broken rib. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured, Williams said. The girl and her mother were transported to USC Medical Center. A section of Route 66 near Loraine Avenue was closed down in both directions following the accident. Williams said the cause of the accident, which involved a lane change, is under investigation.

Thursday, June 9: Lt. Jamie Caldwell and Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 9:28 a.m. Glendora police responded to a report of a 2005 Cadillac SUV was stolen from the 1800 block of East Manor Lane.
  • At 7:57 p.m. Glendora Police arrested Derek Ramirez, 21, address not listed, on a charge of possessing a controlled substance. Psilocybin mushrooms were found in the possession of the suspect, Summers said. Police were actually searching for a suspect in another case and thought Ramirez looked like the suspect. But it turned out Ramirez was not the man they were searching for. However, officers gained consent to search Ramirez. “We found psilocybin on him,” Summers said.

Friday, June 10: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 9:49 p.m. Glendora Police arrested three juveniles aged 14 to 15 for pointing a laser at a helicopter pilot. The three youths were taken into custody in the 400 block of West Meda Avenue. The police helicopter was actually searching for juveniles with spray paint at the time of the incident. The arrests of the three youths were not related to the initial search, Summers said.

Saturday, June 12: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • that police called off after three minutes because the suspect’s prior charges did not warrant risking the safety of other motorists with a continued chase.
  • At 11:44 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a car burglary in the 800 Block of South Groveton Avenue. CDs were stolen from the unlocked vehicle, Summers said.
