Police Blotter: Child Hit By Van, Guns & Downed Traffic Signal

Police activity for the week of July 11 to July 17.

The following information was supplied by the Glendora Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, July 11: Sgt. Marty Amaro on duty.

  • At 6:03 p.m., Glendora Police responded to a report of a home shed that was broken into. The police report did not specify what, if anything, was taken in the burglary.

Thursday, July 14: Lt. Jamie Caldwell on duty.

  • A 12-year-old Glendora boy was transported to County USC Medical Center shortly before 1 p.m. after being Paramedics described his injuries as bumps, scrapes and abrasions, but no broken bones, Caldwell said. Caldwell said a safety helmet likely saved the young man’s life. The accident occurred when the bicyclist lost control of the bike and veered out into traffic. He and his bicycle were scraped in the accident.

  • John Robert Steiner, 58, was taken for psychological evaluation after e, a lieutenant said.
  • At 6:33 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a work truck tagged with graffiti. It was parked in a carport in the 1200 block of South Barranca Ave.
  • A Glendora man was arrested at 7:25 a.m. in the 100 block of East Bennett Avenue after another man called 911 and told police he was being t Officers arrested Norm Velasco, 49, on suspicion of exhibiting a deadly weapon and assault. The victim reported that as he got out of his car. a yelling man charged him and brandished a large rock.

Saturday, July 16: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 9:47 p.m., Glendora Police responded to a report of a car hitting a telephone pole in the 1000 block of Leadora Avenue. Initially the crash was reported as an injury accident, but officers determined the driver was not injured, nor was the pole very damaged. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, police said.

Sunday, July 17: Sgt. James DeMond on duty.

  • At 4 p.m., a city crew finished repairing a faulty transformer that knocked out the traffic signal at the intersection of Glendora Avenue and Route 66. The signal stopped working the night before and a temporary stop sign was set up to avoid problems at the location, DeMond said.
