Police Blotter: Burglary, Graffiti and a DUI Checkpoint

Police activity for the week of June 27 to July 3.

The following information was supplied by the Glendora Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, June 27: Lt. Joe Ward on duty.

  • At 11:49 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of copper wire stolen from a cell phone transmission site in the 400 block of West Carter Drive. The wire was valued at $2,000. Copper wire theft has been on the increase, Ward said.
  • At 2:46 p.m. a car burglary was reported. Glendora Police learned that electronic components were taken from a car in the 1300 block of East Gladstone St.
  • At 8:42 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a man brandishing a gun near Glendora Mountain and Big Dalton Canyon roads during a dispute with workers spraying weeds nearby. A report was taken, but no arrest was made.

Tuesday, June 28: Lt. Joe Ward and Lt. Rob Lamborghini on duty.

  • At 6:30 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of graffiti sprayed on the DCFS (Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services) in the 700 block of South Grand Avenue. A middle finger was sprayed on the building, Lamborghini said.

Friday, July 1: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 6:39 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a suspicious occupied vehicle at the intersection of South Loraine Avenue and Route 66. The arriving officer found that a driver was passed out in his car in front of a stop light at the intersection. He was awakened and arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Police took Ruben Urquidez, 38, of West Covina into custody.

Saturday, July 2: Lt. Jamie Caldwell and Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • The Glendora Police Avoid the 100 task force held a vehicle checkpoint the night of July 1 in the 600 block of Route 66. At the conclusion, police had given out seven driving citations (tickets), eight vehicles were towed because of suspended licenses or expired registrations and one driver was arrested for driving under the influence. It was considered a good night in terms of only one person along the route determined to be driving drunk.
