Police Blotter: Burglaries, Fraud and Vehicle Crashes

Local police activity for the week of May 21 to May 27.

The following was provided by the Glendora Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

Monday, May 21. Lt. Jamie Caldwell on duty.

  • 1:50 a.m. - Authorities were notified of an at Sierra Pharmacy, 210 South Grand Avenue. Once officers arrived they observed a window to the business had been smashed and an undisclosed amount of cash was taken from the business.
  • 7:09 a.m. - A theft report was taken in the 600 block of South Washington Avenue.
  • 9:18 a.m. - A bicycle was reported stolen in the 200 block of West Sierra Madre Avenue.
  • 12:25 p.m. - Employees at , 1950 East Auto Centre Drive, alerted officers about a theft in progress. A man and woman allegedly concealed items in a container. The man left the store and made his way to his vehicle while the woman remained in the store. Officers eventually arrested Wayne Inman, 40, on suspicion of burglary. Inman was eventually issued a citation.
  • 5:05 p.m. - A fraud in progress was reported to Glendora Police.


Tuesday, May 22. Lt. Jamie Caldwell and Lt. Joe Ward on duty.

  • 11:25 a.m. - Officers conducted a traffic stop on South Lone Hill Avenue at Manor Lane and arrested Lorenzo Cortez, 19, on suspicion of driving without a license, filing to provide a license to officers and driving a vehicle that would present a safety hazard. Cortez was issued a citation.
  • 2:17 p.m. - An was reported on North Glendora Mountain Road at mile marker 12.62. A car collided with a motorcycle.
  • 2:55 p.m. - Officers conducted a traffic stop on East Sierra Madre at North Live Oak avenues and arrested the driver on suspicion of possessing/purchasing for sale a controlled substance. The driver was held in lieu of $30,000 bail before being transferred to the Inmate Reception Center.
  • 5:10 p.m. - An injury crash was reported to officers on Lone Hill Avenue at Petunia Street. The driver was Northbound on Lone Hill and attempted to make a U-turn. The driver did not compensate properly and crashed into a light pole on the south side, according to scanner reports. The driver was transported to San Dimas Community Hospital where he was treated and eventually arrested. Charles Ray Vaughn, 39, was booked on suspicion of DUI, exceeding the legal alcohol level, obstructing an officer and battery against emergency personnel. Vaughn was eventually cited and released.
  • 7:31 p.m. - A theft report was taken in the 1300 block of East Gladstone Street.


Wednesday, May 23. Lt. Jamie Caldwell and Lt. Joe Ward on duty.

  • 7:18 a.m. - A grand theft auto report was taken at Walmart. The woman, an employee, discovered her vehicle had been stolen, Caldwell said.
  • 9:03 a.m. - A theft report was taken in the 300 block of East Roslaynn Drive. A GPS device was reportedly stolen from an unlocked vehicle.
  • 11:32 a.m. - A vehicle burglary report was investigated in the 200 block of East Temerra Lane. Paperwork was reported stolen from a locked vehicle parked in the resident's driveway.
  • 2:27 p.m. - Employees at Walmart notified police of a fraud in progress. Police arrested Gia Victor, 44, on suspicion of petty theft with a prior conviction. Victor was also arrested on several warrants and was held without bail.
  • 2:45 p.m. - A ransack burglary was reported in the 300 block of North Barranca Avenue. The female resident arrived home to find the home compromised.
  • 8:28 p.m. - A disturbance was reported in the 300 block of East Lemon Avenue. Officers arrested Richard Lewallyn, 48, on suspicion of disorderly conduct from alcohol. Lewallyn was cited and released.


Thursday, May 24. Lt. Rob Lamborghini and Lt. James DeMond on duty.

  • 1:05 a.m. - Security at , 1600 East Foothill Blvd., reported a A man in all black clothing was observed trying to steal copper wire from a light pole. Police reported that the suspect ran once they saw the flashlight of the security guard. The suspect was never found.
  • 6:59 a.m. - Officers investigated a suspicious occupied vehicle at Walmart. Police arrested Maurine Perry, 53, on several outstanding warrants. Perry was eventually released for a court appearance.
  • 8:07 a.m. - Officials at , 1141 South Barranca Avenue, called police about a health and safety code violation. Police arrested a 17-year-old student on suspicion of being under the influence of marijuana. The student was cited and released to their parents.
  • 3:56 p.m. - A residential burglary report in the 1100 block of East Essex Street was investigated. A window on the east side of the home was smashed.
  • 5:20 p.m. - Employees at Walmart reported a theft that had taken place minutes prior to the call. The alleged thief fled with a basket full of "high ticket items," DeMond said. Some items were electronics, possibly a computer. The suspect drove off in a green car towards the 57 freeway in an unknown direction. Police took a report of the incident.
  • 8:50 p.m. - A commercial burglary was reported at Patti J's in the 625 South Lone Hill Avenue. Construction workers reported that power tools were stolen from the locked location over the past two days.


Friday, May 25. Lt. Rob Lamborghini and Sgt. Mike Randazzo on duty.

  • 12:26 a.m. - Police investigated a suspicious occupied vehicle in the 500 block of South Glendora Avenue and arrested Randy Johnson, 45, on suspicion of burglary and illegal possession of pepper spray. Johnson was held in lieu of $20,000 bail.
  • 1:36 a.m. - Officers conducted a bar check at Our Place, 240 East Route 66, and arrested Christopher Hottman, 40, on suspicion of DUI and exceeding the legal blood-alcohol level. Hottman was cited and released.
  • 2:11 a.m. - Authorities conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of South Hunters Trail and arrested the driver on suspicion of DUI and exceeding the legal blood-alcohol level. The driver was cited and released.
  • 12:40 p.m. - A caller informed police of a drunk man sleeping on the lawn  outside of , 853 West Arrow Highway. Police arrested Guadalupe Lascano, 35, on suspicion of disorderly conduct from alcohol. Lascano was released after officers desired no further prosecution.
  • 5:53 p.m. - Police conducted a traffic stop in the 300 block of West Arrow Highway and arrested Joseph Venegas, 27, on suspicion of illegal possession of pepper spray. Venegas was eventually cited and released.


Saturday, May 26. Lt. Rob Lamborghini and Sgt. Mike Randazzo on duty.

  • 1:35 a.m. - Authorities conducted a traffic stop in the 1200 block of East Route 66 and arrested Kenneth Hubbard, 36, and booked him on suspicion of DUI and exceeding the legal-blood alcohol level. Hubbard was eventually cited and released.
  • 7:08 a.m. - A vehicle burglary report was investigated in the 900 block of East Heather Street. The passenger window to one vehicle was smashed, while a second vehicle was forcibly entered. A briefcase was taken from one of the vehicles, Randazzo said.
  • 8:06 a.m. - Police conducted a pedestrian check in the 1700 block of South Sunflower Avenue and arrested Jeff Skelley, 30, on suspicion of making criminal threats. Skelley was eventually transferred to the Inmate Reception Center in Los Angeles. The incident occurred Friday, but was first reported Saturday
  • 3:22 p.m. - Police arrived to 307 South Vermont Avenue to help remove Officers arrived and arrested the man and woman on drug related charges, while the man was additionally charged for theft of a vehicle.
  • 8:12 p.m. - A graffiti report was investigated in the 700 block of South Forestdale Avenue. A trailer was sprayed with black paint.
  • 8:22 p.m. - A bicyclist was on the trials at South Hills Wilderness Park. The 16-year-old girl fell from her bike and received a head injury.


Sunday, May 27. Lt. Rob Lamborghini and Lt. James DeMond on duty.
3:32 a.m. - Police arrived to the 500 block of East Claraday to investigate a 9-1-1 hangup. Police arrived and arrested Heather Thomas, 21, on suspicion of spousal abuse. Thomas was held in lieu of $50,000 bail.

1:04 p.m. - A graffiti report was taken in the 200 block of North Glendora Avenue.

4:02 p.m. - Officers conducted a pedestrian check on South Bonnie Cove Avenue at Plymouth Street and arrested Mauro Bernal, 19, on suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Bernal was held in lieu of $2,500 bail.

4:39 p.m. - Employees at Walmart alleged four people were involved in a theft in progress. At least two of the suspects were attempting to return items they did not pay for in order to get money for them. Police arrest three suspects on suspicion of burglary and using someone else's ID to return allegedly stolen items.

6:40 p.m. - A theft report was investigated at 24-Hour Fitness, 1357 East Gladstone Street. Two cell phones were reportedly stolen from near the basketball courts.

6:46 p.m. - Police conducted a traffic stop in the 1700 block of South Grand Avenue and arrested Zachary Lindsey, 28, on suspicion of DUI and exceeding the legal alcohol-blood level. Lindsey was held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
