Police Blotter

For the week of 7-4 to 7-10, 2011. The following information was supplied by the Glendora Police Department. Arrests do not indicate a conviction.

7-5-2011: Sgt. Marty Amaro and Lt. Matt Williams on duty.

A bicyclist sustained a head injury after falling off a bicycle on Galatea Street near Barranca Avenue Tuesday evening. The rider, whose name was not released, was transported to Los Angeles County USC Medical Center for observation, according to Officer Kerri Rivas from the California Highway Patrol. Rivas said it is still unclear on what caused the accident.

The rider’s condition is not yet known, she said. Glendora Police responded to the initial call at 9:25 p.m., but since the accident occurred in an unincorporated area of Glendora, the case was handed over to CHP, Williams said.

7-6-2011: Sgt. Matt Williams on duty.

Rundown of July 4: Glendora Police had a mostly “tame” 4th of July, but officers were kept busy responding to calls about illegal fireworks. The department received about 37 calls complaining of fireworks going off in town where even the so-called “safe and sane” varieties are illegal.

But police were not able to locate the residents blowing them off. “Fireworks are short lived,” Williams said. “And they are not being fired off in the middle of the street.” He explained that because they are illegal, many people who bring fireworks into the city blow them off in their backyards. Then by the time police get there, they are already expended, he said. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of fireworks.

And police only had one DUI to deal with on the 4th.  A man accused of driving under the influence rear-ended another car at the intersection of Vista Bonita and Bennett avenues. Police arrested Robert Trent, 24, city unknown. He was cited and released after sobering up, Williams said. Police reported on a few runaway pets and rowdy parties during the noisy evening. The partiers complied with officer requests and no arrests were made.

To deal with the increased 4th of July activities, Glendora Police had an additional two full time officers on duty, said Sgt. Marty Amaro. Amaro said this 4th of July was less active than last year’s holiday. “People behaved themselves,” he said. Williams theorized that a lot of people were out of town for the fourth. “And it was a Monday,” he said.

7-7-2011: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

At 6:37 p.m. Glendora Police arrested a man in the 400 block of West Foothill Boulevard on a domestic violence warrant regarding an assault on an ex-girlfriend. His identity was withheld to protect the identity of the assaulted woman.

At 7:04 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a vehicle burglary at the intersection of Glendora Mountain Road and Big Dalton Canyon Road. A car was broken into and a purse stolen while a woman was hiking in the area, Summers said. The thief gained entrance from a back window, he said.

7-9-2011: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

A 6:43 p.m. traffic stop led to a possession of methamphetamine arrest in the 200 block of East Gladstone Street, Summers said. Officers discovered the drug after making the stop, he said. They arrested Christian Gandy, 43, of Grand Junction, Colo.
