Glendora Police Locate Pit Bull Owner

The owner of the two pit bulls that attacked a 67-year-old Glendora resident has been located, although no charges have been filed pending an ongoing investigation.

The pit bulls – a 6-year-old male and a 1-year-old female – attacked Milford Fonza, a former Vietnam veteran and a retired fire chief with the Compton Fire Department. , and credited Glendora Police Officer Matt Fenner with saving his life.

According to Glendora Lt. Tim Staab, the dogs’ owner, whose name has not been released, has not yet been charged as the investigation is still active. However, a citation is expected once the investigation is completed.

According to Staab, the owner moved to Glendora a year ago and there had been no prior incident with the dogs. However, Staab said the dogs were not licensed.

Staab said the owner was very remorseful over the incident and spoke to Fonza over the telephone. Staab said the owner offered to pay for Fonza’s medical bills.

Fonza suffered multiple dog bites over his body and a broken shoulder.

“The dogs escaped from the fenced backyard from the simple mistake of leaving a gate unlatched,” said Staab. The owner is currently providing vaccination paperwork to Glendora Animal Control and is fully cooperating with police, said Staab.

The potential charges include Glendora Municipal Code violations for allowing dogs at-large. The charges are punishable by a fine.

Glendora Police are planning a press conference Thursday where Officer Fenner and Fonza are scheduled to meet for first time in person since the attack.
