New LA County Fire Chief Sworn In

Fire chief Daryl L. Osby is the first African American fire chief in the department's 88-year history.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department swore in its newest fire chief Daryl L. Osby Thursday at the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors in Los Angeles. LA County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich, who represents Glendora on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors, was present for the ceremony.

Osby began his career with the Los Angeles County Fire Department in 1984 as a firefighter and rose through the ranks to his previous position as Chief Deputy of Business Operations. He is the first African American fire chief in the department's 88-year history.

“We look forward to working with Chief Osby as he becomes the leader of the 4,300 men and women of the nation’s finest fire department,” said Antonovich in a prepared statement. “With his leadership skills and vast experience as a fire-fighting professional, I am confident he will continue the superb legacy of Chief P. Michael Freeman.”
