Truck Crashes into Bank of America, No One Injured
A simple mistake lands a truck into the building on Arrow Highway at Sunflower Avenue. The accident was not related to the rain, authorities said.
No one was injured when a driver mistook the gas pedal for the brake and drove his vehicle halfway into a Bank of America earlier Monday.
Authorities say the crash was not related to the rain Monday.
The accident happened just before 2 p.m. at 843 E. Arrow Highway. According to Glendora Police, the driver was arriving at the bank to make a deposit. As the driver pulled in to the parking spot, he mistook the gas pedal for the brake, accelerated, hopped the curb and drove his yellow GMC Canyon halfway into the building.
"We tested him for impairment and he showed he was not impaired," said Sgt. Matt Williams of Glendora Police.
The area affected was the ATM room, according to authorities. The Bank remained open after the crash and patrons were seen entering and leaving the building. Structural integrity was not compromised in the crash, said Capt. Tryon of L.A. County Fire Station 85. No one was occupying the ATM room at the time.
A patron of the bank, Denise Agron, spoke to the bank manager and said the business will have to hire a security guard to keep watch over the ATM room until repairs are made. Another bank patron spoke with an employee of Bank of America, who said they felt the truck's impact, but thought it was an earthquake.
A tow truck from L.A. County Fire Station 103 was called in to remove the truck from the building.
Afterward, the driver was able to drive the truck away. It is not known how much in damage the accident caused.
