Men Try to Rob Students at Knifepoint Near APU Campus

Police are seeking more information on the attempted robbery.

Two men are in jail after they attempted to rob a group of college students at knifepoint near the Azusa Pacific University campus Sunday.

Jimmy Melgoza and Esteban Lopez, both 21, were booked on suspicion of attempted robbery just after midnight in the 700 block of East Alosta Avenue, according to Azusa Police.  The APU campus

The two men tried to sell the six students drugs and then asked for money, but when the group refused both, one of the men pulled a knife on them, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

The students ran to safety after a brief chase. The two suspects were later found and arrested. A woman was seen with the two men, but was able to escape before police arrived.
