Man Injured in Stabbing Lied About Attack

Glendora Police say 36-year-old man made up a story about being attacked and stabbed by a group of men as he walked home from a bus stop.

A man who told police that he had been attacked by a group of young men and stabbed as he walked home from a Glendora bus stop made up the entire story, even going as far as inflicting a stab wound on himself according to Glendora Police.

Sgt. Brian Summers said detectives investigating the case found inconsistencies with the 36-year-old man’s story, who told police he had been attacked at around 12:45 a.m. on July 25.

“He made the story up,” said Summers. “Although we’re still looking into a motive, we believe he may have been seeking attention.”

Summers said detectives found an alcohol swab with blood on it near the location where the alleged victim said he was attacked. They also discovered that the man had been convicted of making a false report in Covina in 1998, telling police that he had been robbed and kidnapped.

Summers said Glendora Police confronted the man about their findings and he confessed to making the story up.

He also told them that he inflicted the minor stab wound on his shoulder with a piece of cut glass.

Summers said the man will be charged with making a false report to police, a misdemeanor which can carry one year prison sentence in county jail.
