Man in Critical Condition After Being Hit By Truck

The 28-year-old man was responding to another minor accident when he was struck on Gladstone Street.

A 28-year-old man is in critical condition after he was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Sunflower and Gladstone Monday evening.

The accident occurred shortly another minor accident at 5:37 p.m. in the 5600 block of East Gladstone. In the first accident, a driver of a pulled over vehicle stepped out of the car and was clipped on the arm by the mirror of another vehicle driving by.

As the two drivers spoke at the side of the road, one of the driver’s nephew and son arrived at the scene.

For some unknown reason, the nephew and the son walked onto the road and both men were struck by a Toyota Tacoma, according to Lt. Joe Ward.  The 28-year-old son suffered major head injuries and was airlifted to LA County/USC Hospital. He is listed in critical condition. The nephew received minor injuries in the collision.

Ward said that the two men may have been trying to recreate the previous accident when they were hit by the truck.

“It was dark and they were standing in the lane,” said Ward. “The driver didn’t see them.”

Ward said the 57-year-old driver of the pickup truck was cooperative with police. Drugs or alcohol is not suspected to be involved in the accident.
