Man in Critical Condition After Being Hit By Truck

The 28-year-old man was responding to another minor accident when he was struck on Gladstone Street.

A 28-year-old man is in critical condition after he was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Sunflower and Gladstone Monday evening.

The accident occurred shortly another minor accident at 5:37 p.m. in the 5600 block of East Gladstone. In the first accident, a driver of a pulled over vehicle stepped out of the car and was clipped on the arm by the mirror of another vehicle driving by.

As the two drivers spoke at the side of the road, one of the driver’s nephew and son arrived at the scene.

For some unknown reason, the nephew and the son walked onto the road and both men were struck by a Toyota Tacoma, according to Lt. Joe Ward.  The 28-year-old son suffered major head injuries and was airlifted to LA County/USC Hospital. He is listed in critical condition. The nephew received minor injuries in the collision.

Ward said that the two men may have been trying to recreate the previous accident when they were hit by the truck.

“It was dark and they were standing in the lane,” said Ward. “The driver didn’t see them.”

Ward said the 57-year-old driver of the pickup truck was cooperative with police. Drugs or alcohol is not suspected to be involved in the accident.

My wife just informed me about the accident. The 28 year old is my nephew's best friend since they were four years old. All we know him as is "Rommy." She told me that his skull was split in four places and he was in surgery for nine hours. He is in a coma and hasn't been conscious since the accident. The doctors give him a thirty percent chance of survival and if he lives he will be a vegetable for life. My nephew lost his father about a year ago and now it appears he will lose his best friend as well. We are praying for the both of them.

Who said the vehicle that hit him was in a hurry to get somewhere? The speed limit there on Gladstone is 45 mph...which is definitely fast enough to cause serious injuries to a person standing in the road.

We are Praying for you Rami... It was NOT Dark when the accident had just happened, I was on my way home from work, it was a little after 5:00PM, when I was driving westbound on Gladstone, the police had not yet arrived, saw a man laying on the floor and a woman knelling over his head, crying and screaming, and the only thing I can think of is PLZ let the man be Ok, let the man be Ok without knowing who the man is. When I got home, I sat down with my family and told them the disturbing seen and prayed for him to be OK and come out of it...An hour later I come to find out that that man is Rami and the woman is his Mother. I freaked out and could not believe it..I could not stop crying and was shook up all night, kept praying for him. I wish I had stopped, even though there was nothing I could have done...the car had already struck him and was bleeding and not moving at all Rami is one of the nicest young men I have ever meet, hard working gentleman, responsible, fighter, and has a great personality...Rami deserves to live and see his future. We will keep you in our prayers and wish you a speed recovery ....You need to come out of this Rami....I got a few projects waiting for you.

Oh that is good news, James, Thanks for the information. May God heal him and give him back his life for his family's sake and all that love him. This young man is amazing, he has a heart of Gold, great personality and is so giving. His mother told me how he helped a man who just got laid off from work, they needed a new heating system for their home and Rami went bought him a new unit and brought his 2 works to set it up to work. In the end he told the man plz pay these workers what you can and don't worry about the heating unit its on me, the man started to cry because of what Rami did for him and his family. That is one amazing young man. God please heal Rami and put your hands on him Lord and bring him back to life again. We love you Rami our prayers are with you day & night. Amen Lord we believe in you and your miracles.

This is Rami's sister. Mr. Edwards your information is incorrect. My brother will not be a vegetable for the rest of his life. If people would like to know the status of my brother's recovery we welcome them to ask my family and I directly before making false assumptions on the internet. Our family is dealing with this as best as we possibly can and we do not need false information circulating on the internet. It is offensive to my family and not to mention disrespectful!
Sally February 16, 2013 at 07:29 AM
John- the vehicle was obviously not paying attention if he hit two not one but two pedestrians in broad daylight. Your comment is offensive and disrespectful to my family and I!
Sally February 16, 2013 at 07:30 AM
He is 25 years old.
