Man Fatally Injured After Jumping out of Car on 210 Freeway

A 39-year-old Azusa man jumped out of a car he was riding in on the 210 Freeway Saturday night, according to the CHP. His reasons for jumping are unknown.

A 39-year-old man who jumped out of a car on the westbound Foothill (210) Freeway in Irwindale was fatally injured, a California Highway Patrol officer said today.

Mark Anthony Munoz of Azusa was found fatally injured in the No. 3 lane,
west of Irwindale Avenue, shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday, according to the
CHP.

Munoz was a passenger in a 2007 Toyota Yaris driven by his 62-year-old
mother when, for unknown reasons, opened the passenger door and jumped out,
according to a CHP statement.

As he hit the pavement, Munoz was struck by a 2002 Honda Accord. The
driver of that car pulled over on the shoulder and was interviewed by the CHP.

What about the grandmothr. This story is incomplete and has more questions than facts. Come on now. You guys are so much better than this.
Concerned October 8, 2012 at 04:12 pm
So is the guy dead? And wonder why he jumped out of the vehicle. Could he have have a mental illness of some sort?
smkmstr J October 8, 2012 at 04:31 pm
Concerned... I believe "fatally injured" means he's dead.
SgtJackWagon October 9, 2012 at 05:06 pm
"Come on now." Now that you have staff workers from the "Patch," frantically looking for this unfortunate man's grandmother, maybe you should reconsider your "sharpshooting" abilities. There's no mention of any "grandmother" within this article. I'm sure you misread this story, as I believe you actually meant "mother."
The reason for my response is due to your second, 3rd, and fourth sentences of your comment which placed blame on people undeservedly.
Laurel Hiestand October 11, 2012 at 09:14 pm
I am concerned about Patch readers' poor reading comprehension! If it were't so frightening, I would laugh!
I am also concerned about many readers' inability to express themselves in writing! I've never seen such poor spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Okay, I admit it - I'm a retired teacher! But really, readers, can't you do better???
SgtJackWagon October 12, 2012 at 01:26 pm
Hey Ms Hiestand, are you directing your comments to anyone in particular, or just everyone that has contributed, and/or left a comment to this story?
I could not help but notice that you seem to have misspelled "weren't," You have it spelled "were't. Maybe you are correct, but I have never seen it any other way, than the way I spelled it. Also it does not seem as if you are placing two spaces between sentences. It could be my eyes, or maybe thes nuns were correct.
SgtJackWagon October 12, 2012 at 01:30 pm
Correction: Last sentence of comment, eight word from the beginning of sentence, "thes" should read "the."
SgtJackWagon October 12, 2012 at 01:39 pm
And one (") as well.

Laurel,
It's easy to make typos on the keyboard, esp. without that typing class my mother made me take in HS. I even make typos when tired or rushing :) But, most younger Americans do not have the literacy skills we learned "back in the day" and text lingo has infiltrated. In fact, text lingo shows up in the academic papers I grade regardless of my "preaching." On to this tragedy: This is a horrible event and I can only imagine the guilt and heartbreak the driver who struck him must be feeling. My intuition tells me the fellow was committing suicide. This sort of thing happens on TV and sadly, people get ideas from there. For whatever reason, this is horribly sad for all involved.
Laurel Hiestand October 13, 2012 at 03:05 pm
Touche. I would have placed the accent aigu on the "e" but I don't think my i phone has that feature. I concede that typos are easy to make on this tiny keyboard. I do always try to leave two spaces between sentences. I wish you had commented on my statement about poor reading comprehension, but I thank you for taking the time to point out my typographical errors.
smkmstr J October 13, 2012 at 03:38 pm
Accents are accessed on an iPhone by pressing the letter you wish to have accented. You hold it down (it must be a letter that can be accented) and choices will pop up. You then slde your finger to the one you want.
Laurel Hiestand October 14, 2012 at 04:52 am
Just tried it. Thank you smkmstrJ!
To Sgt.JackWagon: What "nuns" were you referring to in the comment you directed to me on October 12?
SgtJackWagon October 15, 2012 at 03:17 pm
I was referring to the Immaculate Conception Nuns that taught me as I was growing up, as I was enrolled in parochial school. My comment on two spaces between sentences, was taught to me by the nuns, and I was also saying maybe I can't see the two spaces......with my eyes.

Hey Quanyecha, take your degrading, no respect, trash peddling a__, somewhere else. We are talking about a man dying and you have the audacity to post a trailer trash Internet add so you can sell some purses? You've got some issues my friend, and you definitely need to make amove to deal with them.

You are so right Danlp oh how I wish they would clean that area up. I might be wrong but it appearsRead More to be getting worse. They not only take up all the grass area but are now starting to sit out in front of Wells Fargo. Come on Glendora.....

I called the non-emergency # for the Glendora Police Dept. and the operator told me 'they' knewRead More nothing about the explosion. Then I told her I had 'just read' on Patch that a Glendora Police Officer had told a resident that it probably was an industrial fire cracker, but I 'thought' it was way too massive for that. The operator had 'nothing' more to say.

The local government has chosen to adopt the Sgt. Schultz syndrome that is used by all those in TheRead More District of Corruption, in Washington. Why not? It is working for them, they are getting away with everything they try.

Well, good luck with that Donald, I've been sending emails to the City Manager ( Mr. Jeffries) for 2Read More years about that stretch of road and all that's been done is the filling of two small potholes. The road condition is an embarrassment to all in the city.

Amen to you both. I have seen several streets in Glendora that could use repair. I was recentlyRead More driving in cities with much fewer resources and and smaller budgets than Glendora wondering why their roads are better than ours. Maybe we need to start with Grand and go from there....
