Dejon Ward was killed July 12 when two men ambushed him as he looked up directions near Venice and Crenshaw boulevards.

Dejon Ward had simply pulled over in a parking lot near Venice and Crenshaw boulevards in Los Angeles to look up directions on a map when two men opened fire on him July 12, according to Los Angeles Police. Nearly a month later, police are still looking for his killers.

As a Charter Oak High School football standout, Ward tied a district record with a 98-yard run and graduated from the school in 2009. There is no evidence that Ward knew his killers, who are seen on surveillance video exiting a silver Nissan Armada and then approaching Ward’s vehicle as it pulled into the parking lot. The shooting occurs out of frame, but the two men are seen running back into the Nissan and driving away.

Ward was found crashed into a building a block away. He was declared dead at the scene, according to emergency personnel.
