Kohl's Theft Suspect Flees Right Into Police Custody
Man who stole vacuum cleaner at the Marketplace Wednesday night runs out to a waiting officer.
A theft suspect is behind bars Wednesday night after attempting to flee with stolen goods, instead virtually running into the waiting arms of an officer watching a suspicious-looking car.
Officers arrested 45-year-old Mitchell Herrington of Arcadia on suspicion of burglary. Bail is set at $20,000.
Police were patrolling the lots around , 1225 South Lone Hill Avenue. The officer discovered a suspicious vehicle that had both license plates blocked, parked behind the store, said Lieutenant Joe Ward. The officer watched the vehicle for a few minutes when the suspect, holding a Dyson vacuum cleaner, ran out through an emergency exit.
"The suspect ran out the back door, through the emergency exit of Kohl's, basically into the arms of officers," Ward said.
The officer detained the suspect at gunpoint while fellow officers arrived to provide backup. The suspect was taken into custody.
Herrington could appear in West Covina Superior Court Friday, June 8.
