Glendora Police Offers Halloween Safety Tips
By The Glendora Police Department
Halloween is an exciting night of the year and a particularly special treat for young children. It is also an important time to be extra vigilant for potential safety hazards. The Glendora Police Department wants everyone to have a happy, fun and safe Halloween by following these tips:
For Trick or Treaters and Parents:
- Plan costumes that are bright and reflective. Make sure that shoes fit well and that costumes are short enough to prevent tripping, entanglement or contact with flame
- Avoid wearing masks that obscure vision
- Obey traffic signals
- Look both ways before crossing the street. Use established crosswalks wherever possible and use caution if you cross between parked cars
- Stay on the sidewalks when possible
- Stay in familiar neighborhoods
- Don’t use electronic devices (texting while walking) when you are crossing the street, pay attention to traffic
- Only go to homes with a porch light on and never enter a home or car for a treat
- Carry a flashlight, carry or wear glow products like glow bracelets or necklaces
For Motorists:
- Drive slowly and cautiously
- Popular trick-or-treating hours are 5:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. so be especially alert for kids during those hours
- Turn your headlights on earlier in the day to spot children from greater distances
- Be careful when entering and exiting driveways
- Do not use your cellphone to text or make calls while driving
- Look for children walking on the street, running and darting in between parked vehicles
- Never drink alcohol and drive
