Glendora Pilot Makes Emergency Landing on Highway Near Barstow

A single engine plane experiences complete power failure before making a landing on State Route 247 Sunday.

When Pilot Joseph Latourelle of Glendora and his two passengers, Karen and Katie Homan of Covina, began experiencing engine failure in their small, single engine plane Sunday, Latourelle put out a mayday call and immediately looked for a spot to land.

The plane was making its way from Las Vegas to La Verne Brackett Field Sunday morning when the aircraft began experiencing mechanical issues and loss of altitude, according to a story in the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

That’s when Latourelle spotted State Route 247 just outside of Barstow.
