Glendora Officers Receive Honors for DUI Efforts

Mothers Against Drunk Driving host an evening to honor officers Countywide who helped take DUI drivers of the street.

Seven Glendora Police officers were recently honored for their ongoing work in taking DUI drivers off the road.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving held a ceremony March 22 in which the organization honored 514 Los Angeles County-area law enforcement officers for their anti-DUI campaigns. Over 640 law enforcement officers were on hand for the ceremony, including some federal, state and county officials.

Those on hand being awarded included Lieutenant Jamie Caldwell, Lieutenant Joe Ward, Officer Christopher Farino, Officer Alex Stein, Officer Michael Howell, Officer Russell Ziino and Officer Scott Salvage, who, combined, arrested 160 drunk drivers in 2011, according to a Glendora Police press release. Community Services Officer Wendy Brewer was also honored with the Distinguished Service Medal for her work as the “Avoid the 100” DUI Task Force Coordinator for Los Angeles County.

As a whole, Glendora Police arrested over 350 DUI drivers last year, a reported 33 percent increase from 2010, according to Captain Tim Staab.

Police Chief Rob Castro was the keynote speaker for the event and spoke of how regional policing efforts are saving lives countywide.

Those honored received a special recognition plaque and a pin to be worn on their uniform.

MADD, the California Office of Traffic Safety and the "Avoid the 100" Task Force honor law enforcement officers every year for their work to take DUI drivers off the road.
