Glendora Convicted Murderer’s Story to Air on '48 Hours'

Frank O’Connell was convicted of murdering a South Pasadena man in 1985, a crime he said he didn’t commit. CBS airs his story on 48 Hours.

Frank O’Connell maintained his innocence, even when a Pasadena judge sentenced him to prison for murdering a South Pasadena man in 1985. And after 27 years, O’Connell and family members see new hope in their case to set O’Connell free in an episode of "48 Hours."

CBS will air O’Connell’s story Saturday, Nov. 24 at 10 p.m. (PST) in "48 Hours: Presumed Guilty."

Did you watch the "48 Hours" episode on Frank O'Connell? What do you think about the case? Tell us in the comments below.

The episode documents O’Connell’s story, from a former Glendora High School football star to a young man who lost his way during the time he was accused of killing the ex-husband of a woman he was believed to have dated a short time before.

The victim was Jay French, a South Pasadena man gunned down outside of his home.

An eyewitness placed O’Connell at the scene of the crime after a photo lineup. O’Connell, confident in his innocence, placed his fate in the hands of a judge rather than go through a jury trial.

The move sent him to 25 years to life in prison.

“I didn’t deserve this, I wasn’t a thug in the community that they needed to sweep up and get off the streets,” O’Connell says in the episode.

O’Connell’s son, Nick, who was just 4 years old when his father was locked up, spent most of his life trying to prove his father’s innocence.

But after 27 years, O’Connell sees new hope when it is discovered investigators mishandled evidence that could have benefited his case.

“48 Hours” pieces together the murder case, and interviews police investigators, witnesses, and friends and family of both O’Connell and Jay French.

That's crap this happened. Watched the show for only 10 minutes and could tell this wasn't right. My brother was wrongfully accused by students that he caugt with alcohol at school. I personally watched the DAs office go after him and alter evidence. Went on for over 5 years before actually going to trial by jury. Accusers caught several times lying on the stand, but nothing was ever done to them. Jury found my brother innocent on 13 different counts, but his life was ruined. DAs office NEVER once interviewed him to get his side of what happened. Just went after him and did everything possible, even telling witnesses to lie on the stand. Who knows how many lives have been wrongfully ruined just to get a conviction. My heart does go out to the family who lost there loved one, but it also goes out the all the people affected by a wrongful conviction. Nothing can be done to the DA's office because of "prosecutorial immunity". Basically they can do whatever they want and there's nothing that can be done about it.

I am so happy that your father is out of prison & you 2 can share in each others lives. I didn>t hear anythinh about your mom. Did she stand by your father? God Bless all of you. My dad was a honest & good Superior Court Judge for over 23 yrs. My brother was a criminal defense attorney who always did his best for his clients. Sounds like your dad had a terrible attorney. As I said

That's what I've been wondering????? Typical Glendora withholding information. Sounded like a methRead More lab blowing up. I heard it was on vista Bonita and some type of " chemical fire".

I called the non-emergency # for the Glendora Police Dept. and the operator told me 'they' knewRead More nothing about the explosion. Then I told her I had 'just read' on Patch that a Glendora Police Officer had told a resident that it probably was an industrial fire cracker, but I 'thought' it was way too massive for that. The operator had 'nothing' more to say.

Well, good luck with that Donald, I've been sending emails to the City Manager ( Mr. Jeffries) for 2Read More years about that stretch of road and all that's been done is the filling of two small potholes. The road condition is an embarrassment to all in the city.

Amen to you both. I have seen several streets in Glendora that could use repair. I was recentlyRead More driving in cities with much fewer resources and and smaller budgets than Glendora wondering why their roads are better than ours. Maybe we need to start with Grand and go from there....
