FBI Still on Lookout For ‘Puffy Coat Bandit’

The robbery suspect has hit seven banks across the Southland.

Images of a Southland bank robber known as the "Puffy Coat Bandit" were made public today in the hope that someone would recognize him.

The robber is wanted in seven holdups in Los Angeles, Riverside and San Bernardino counties over the past three weeks, according to Laura Emiller of the FBI.

The puffy ski jacket he wore in at least one crime helped FBI agents come up with a nickname.

In other holdups, he wore a plaid jacket and a baseball cap or a knit beanie, Eimiller said.

He is white, believed to be in his 30s and 6-feet-1-inch or taller, with a thin-to-medium build.

He is wanted for robberies:

-- Dec. 20 at a U.S. Bank branch in Chino;

-- Dec. 22 at Premier Service Bank in Corona;

-- Dec. 28 at Mission Oaks Bank in Lake Elsinore;

-- Dec. 30 at ;

-- Jan. 3 at ;

-- Jan. 7 at the same U.S. Bank robbed in Chino on Dec. 20; and

-- Jan. 9 at a Comerica Bank in Rancho Cucamonga.

Most of the time, the robber used a demand note and, in some crimes, he simulated having a weapon under his coat, Eimiller said. He may have escaped in a gold- or copper-colored Ford Taurus, or a black Oldsmobile Alero with a spoiler.

The cars may been driven by a male getaway driver who looks similar to the robber, and Eimiller said it was possible the driver may have committed at least one of the robberies.

Anyone with more information as to the names or whereabouts of the suspects was urged to call the FBI at (888) CANT HIDE, or 911.
