Driver with Apparent Medical Condition Injured In Chain Reaction Accident

The three-car collision occurred eastbound Route 66 Tuesday evening.

A driver with an apparent medical condition was injured when his car rear-ended a car that collided with a third car on eastbound Route 66 approaching Vermont Ave Tuesday evening.

The driver was transported to County USC Medical Center. His condition was not immediately known.

Two people in the second car received minor injuries and were taken to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital. The driver of the third car did not require hospitalization.

Lt. Rob Lamborghini did not yet know what the medical problem was that led to the collision, but it was causing the driver to drive erratically, he said.

Officers who responded to the 6:56 p.m. accident determined that the driver of the first car wound up rolling into the westbound lane of Route 66 after hitting the second car. The second car also ended up in the westbound lane.

The first car proceeded past a curve and hit a wall, where the car came to rest.
