UPDATE: Deputies Continue Search for Lost Hiker

Hiker was reportedly never lost, according to authorities. A miscommunication with family was the cause for concern. Man originally reported as missing since last night.

A hiker reported as missing near Glendora Mountain Road was contacted and found safe after a miscommunication with family led them to believe he was missing.

Deputies reportedly made contact with the hiker before 3 p.m., but was not made known to the San Dimas Sheriff's Station because of radio and cell phone issues, said Sergeant Dave Grall.

"It wasn't yesterday he was supposed to be back it was tonight," Grall said. "It was confirmed that he was found. He is safe. He was actually by his car."

His family believed he should have returned home last night, but it was allegedly tonight he intended on returning from his hike, authorities said.

Previously — At least four Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputies are searching for a hiker reported missing this afternoon.

The hiker, only described as a man in his mid-50s, went out hiking near Glendora Mountain Road around mile marker .50, according to Sergeant Dave Grall of the San Dimas Sheriffs Station. The hiker went out some time yesterday and was reportedly supposed to return last night around 7 p.m. No clothing description was provided.

The call came in to the Sheriff's station around 12:50 p.m, Sunday.

Grall said the San Dimas Search and Rescue team has not been deployed yet.

"As far as I know, we still got a reserve crew up there looking for this person," Grall said. "We got four deputies up there. Two two-man cars."
