Crime Blotter: Shoplifting, Heroin & Knives

Police activity for the week of March 28 to April 3.

Monday, March 28: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 8:10 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a non-injury accident in the 1600 block of S. Barranca Ave. A car slowed to pull over to the curb and it was rear-ended by another car, Summers said.
  • At 12:13 p.m. police responded to a report of a GPS unit stolen from a car in a garage in the 600 block of N. Minnesota Ave.

Tuesday, March 29: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 4:51 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a car stolen in the 1200 block of S. Bender Ave. A blue 2000 Honda Civic was stolen from the driveway of a residence, Summers said.
  • At 7:08 p.m. Glendora Police received a report of a shoplifter at Wal-Mart, 1950 Auto Center Dr. A pre-paid cell phone was stolen. Police stopped the suspect car as it attempted to leave the parking lot. Police arrested Miguel Cardenas, 21, city unknown on suspicion of theft.
  • At 10:10 p.m. Glendora Police did a pedestrian check in the 600 block of S. Vermont Ave. They noticed that a 22-year-old male had something in his hand. Police learned that he swallowed three bags of heroin. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital. Summers said that because the bags were not retrievable, he was not arrested.

  •  At around 6:30 p.m., Glendora police attempted to serve an arrest warrant on an 18-year-old male on Bennett Avenue and Trayer Avenue near La Fetra Elementary and Sandburg Middle School. The suspect ran and police set up a containment. A police helicopter also assisted in the search. However, the suspect escaped. An event at Sandburg Middle School was occurring simultaneously, adding to the confusion, said Lt. Brian Summers.  On Saturday, April 2, Glendora Police served another arrest warrant on the same suspect. While the suspect attempted to escape again, police were able to apprehend him (See Saturday, April 2 entry).

Friday, April 1: Lt. Rob Lamborghini on duty.

  • At 6:48 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a non-injury accident in which a driver, Jaime Luna, 25, city unknown, was arrested for driving without a license. His vehicle was impounded. The accident occurred when a car traveling east-bound ran a red light at Glendora Ave. and Foothill Blvd. and struck another vehicle turning left on a green arrow.

Saturday, April 2:  Lt. Rob Lamborghini on duty (morning), Sgt. Matt Williams, (night).

  • At 2:15 a.m. a motorcyclist received minor injuries when he hit a bump and lost control of his motorcycle at the intersection of Grand and Bennett avenues. The motorcyclist was headed northbound and his motorcycle ended up in the southbound lane, Lamborghini said.
  • At 6:23 p.m. Glendora Police tried to serve an arrest warrant on a man in the 500 block of W. Comstock Ave. The suspect ran and as police caught up, a fight ensued. The suspect was then apprehended and arrested for the warrant and resisting arrest. Officers arrested Duncan Depastene, 18 of Glendora. One of the officers was slightly injured, Williams said.
  • Glendora Police arrested following an 11:34 p.m. vehicle stop for speeding in the 800 block of West Dalton Ave., Glendora. Officers arrested Steven Montoya, 18 of Glendora on suspicion of possessing a concealed switch-blade knife and for having a shobi-zue in his car. A shobi-zue is a pole concealing a knife or blade which can be exposed by a flip of the wrist or mechanical action. Shobi-zues are illegal in California.

Sunday, April  3: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 12:13 a.m. Glendora Police stopped a bicycle rider in the 300 block of W. Colorado Ave. for a vehicle code violation and arrested her for being under the influence of a stimulant. They arrested Pamela Moore, 39 of San Dimas. As the suspect was being booked, police reported finding methamphetamine in the suspect’s sock. Possession of methamphetamine was added to the charge.
