Crime Blotter: Graffiti, Car Burglaries and a Death Investigation

Glendora Police activity for the week of March 7 to March 13.

Monday, March 7: Lt. Brian Summers (day) and Sgt. Matt Egan (night) on duty.

  • At 7:22 a.m., Glendora Police responded to a report of cars being rifled in the 100 block of N. Underhill Dr. and in the 100 block of San Jose Dr., Glendora. Two cars were broken into at each location, Summers said. Electronics and car chargers were taken, he said. The cars were left unlocked.
  • At 8:15 a.m. police responded to a two-car accident at Lone Hill Ave. and Auto Center Drive. The drivers sustained minor injuries, Summers said.
  • A short time later at 8:56 a.m. police responded to a report of graffiti on signs at the onramp to the 57 freeway at Auto Center Drive.
  • At 9:42 a.m. police responded to a car burglary in the 1500 block of Manor Lane, Glendora. Thieves took a GPS unit, an Ipod and several credit cards. At 6 p.m. on Monday, police responded to the 1600 block of Manor Lane where a GPS unit was stolen from a car. The theft probably occurred early Monday, Summers said. Both cars were left unlocked.
  • Glendora Police made a shoplifting arrest at 4:20 p.m. at Wal-Mart Auto Center, 1950 E. Auto Center Dr., following a report of a man stealing synthetic motor oil with a fake receipt. Police arrested Robert Sanchez, 44, of La Puente. Sgt. Egan reported that the suspect had earlier purchased inexpensive motor oil from the same Wal-Mart. He came back with the receipt from the initial purchase and picked up some expensive synthetic motor oil, then tried to exit the store holding up the receipt from the original purchase. A loss prevention employee noticed the scam and detained the suspect outside the store. Police then arrived and made the arrest.

Tuesday, March 8: Lt. Brian Summers (day) on duty. Lt. Joe Ward (night) on duty.

  • At 10:09 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of graffiti sprayed on a large city water tank in the 1200 block of E. Saga St., Glendora.
  • At 1:05 p.m. police responded to a theft of a purse at Huntington East Valley Medical Center at 130 W. Route 66, Glendora.
  • At 2:06 p.m. Glendora Police responded to Wal-Mart at 1950 Auto Center Dr. where they arrested Manual Ortiz, 29 of El Monte, and Scarlett Patino, 27 of Los Angeles, on suspicion of shoplifting. The two suspects reportedly used fraudulent sales receipts to carry goods out of the store. They were stopped by store security officers and held until police arrived. Ward said the suspects used receipts they found in the parking lot to carry items out that matched the items printed on the receipts.

Wednesday, March 9: Lt. Brian Summers on duty

  • On Wednesday at 12:03 a.m. police responded to the 800 and 500 blocks of E. Arrow Highway, where graffiti was reported on three business fronts: Extra Space Storage, 825 E. Arrow Highway, Oriental Express Fast Food, 815 E. Arrow Highway and B & M Tackle, 533 E. Arrow Highway.
  • In the early morning hours, Glendora Police made an arrest related to an earlier robbery. Police arrested , 18, of Glendora on suspicion of strong-arm robbery after attempting to burglarize a car in a Bank of America parking lot in the 100 block of N. Vermont Ave., Glendora. A man said he found Serna rummaging through his car when he returned from the bank. After a brief tussle, the suspect got away. But coincidence leads Glendora Police at the suspect's house for another and to his arrest.
  • At 4:49 a.m. two cars were broken into at 150 W. Route 66, Glendora. Nothing was reported stolen.

Thursday, March 10

  • Glendora Police in the 100 block of Prospero Avenue in Glendora, determining later that the woman had died of natural causes.

Saturday, March 12: Lt. Rob Lamborghini on duty.
