Crime Blotter: Gas Siphoning, Traffic Stops and Lost Hikers

Reports from the Glendora police blotter for the week of Feb. 28 to March 6.

Monday, Feb. 28: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At around 2 a.m. The man, who appeared to be in his 50s and may have been suffering from Alzheimer's, was still wearing his hospital smock.
  • At 7:08 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of graffiti in the 1300 block of S. Briargate Lane, Glendora. At 9:14 a.m. police responded to a report of graffiti in the 800 block of W. Carroll Ave., Glendora. Summers said the two drawings, done about a mile apart, appear to have the same monikers.
  • Later at 1:05 p.m., police responded to a report of $600 stolen from the Home Depot store at 1305 S. Lone Hill Ave., Glendora. Summers said the theft took place a day before and was caught on video. Police are now trying to identify the suspect from the video footage.
  • At 1:37 p.m. police responded to an injury traffic accident in the 600 block of E. Gladstone St.  A car traveling east bound on Gladstone St. was struck from behind after slowing down to yield to a fire truck that was pulling out onto the street. The driver was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries, Summers said.
  • At 1:57 p.m. on Monday, police responded to NationalLink, 2235 Auto Center Dr., Glendora, where they learned that NationalLink is a provider of automated teller machines. It also services and repairs the machines. The police report did not say how many cars in the fleet had gas siphoned from them.
  • At 2:38 p.m. police learned that a purse had been stolen from the girls locker room at Glendora High School, 1600 E. Foothill Blvd.
  • At 11:35 p.m. police made a DUI arrest in the 1800 block of E. Foothill Blvd. They took into custody Aaron Monar, 25, of Glendora.

Tuesday, March 1: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 7:46 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a non-injury accident at the intersection of S. Glendora Ave. and Route 66, Glendora.
  • At 9:59 a.m., police responded to Glendora High School, 1600 E. Foothill Blvd.,where a cell phone was reported to be stolen from a gym locker.
  • At 10:48 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a drunk-in-public report. As the police pulled up, a man ran in front of the police car. After questioning the man, police determined he was intoxicated. They arrested David Sweeden, 30, of Glendora on suspicion of being drunk-in-public.

Wednesday, March 2: Lt. Brian Summers and Lt. Rob Lamborghini on duty.

  • Glendora Police found following a stop at the intersection of the 210 freeway and Sunflower Avenue. At 7:17 a.m. police arrested Hector Perez, 25, of Fontana on a charge of having three warrants out for his arrest and for carrying a fictitious California identification card. The arresting officer also learned that the suspect had no driver’s license and was carrying the social security card of a family member.
  • At 8:01 a.m. police arrested a local transient on a charge of being drunk in pubic and for three warrants totaling $260,000. They arrested Stephen Hughes, 50, at 1405 E. Route 66.
  • At 8:15 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a non-injury two-car traffic accident on Glendora Avenue south of Route 66. A car pulled out of a medical office into oncoming traffic causing the collision, Summers said.

Thursday, March 3: Lt. Rob Lamborghini on duty.

  • At 5:55 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a motorcycle accident at 1030 E. Route 66. The motorcyclist received minor injuries.

Saturday, March 5: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 7:17 p.m. Glendora Police made a traffic stop and after checking the car, arrested Donald Swan, 23, of Glendora on a charge of possessing marijuana for sale.
  • Later, at 11:18 p.m. Glendora Police took a 32-year-old mentally-ill man off of a transit bus where he reportedly got into an altercation with the bus driver. The driver was not hurt and the man was detained for a medical evaluation. He’ll be kept in a hospital for 72 hours. The incident occurred at Loraine Ave. and Route 66. The man was not arrested, so police did not identify him.

Sunday, March 6: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 1:42 a.m. Glendora Police stopped a man on a bicycle and after questioning him determined he was in possession of narcotics paraphernalia. They arrested Steven Gant, 29, of Covina in the 300 block of E. Arrow Highway on suspicion of possessing narcotics paraphernalia.
  • Later that morning at 3:16 a.m., police arrested Aram Blandon, 21, of La Puente on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana after police stopped the suspect for a traffic violation at S. Grand Ave. and Route 66.
  • At 4:10 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a man driving erratically and hitting curbs. A patrol officer caught up with the suspect at the intersection of Route 66 and Glendora Ave. The officer arrested Larry Hansen, 58, of Lancaster on suspicion of being under the influence of prescription drugs. It carries the same penalties as driving under the influence of alcohol or non-prescription drugs, expect there is not penalty for blood alcohol level, Summers said.
  • At 8:22 p.m. Glendora Police arrested a man and a juvenile on suspicion of shoplifting of a television from the Wal-Mart store at 1950 Auto Center Dr. Police arrested Julio Landeros, 23, of Los Angeles and a juvenile, also of Los Angeles, after an employee noticed that a flat-screen television was put into a box that was supposed to house a kids’ table.
  • Glendora Police and San Dimas Search and Rescue located and retrieved at around 10:30 p.m.
