Crime Blotter: Drugs, Theft and Elder Abuse

Reported local crime for the week of Feb. 7 to Feb. 13.

Monday, Feb. 7: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • Glendora Police made two arrests following an 8:01 p.m. traffic stop in the 100 block of East Route 66. Police arrested Hang Nguyen, 46, of Westminster for having a warrant out for his arrest, and Adam Pham, 24, of Westminster on suspicion of possessing and being under the influence of methamphetamine.
  • At 10:40 p.m. police responded to a report of a theft of a lawn ornament in the 1000 block of E. Gladstone St.
  • Police are investigating the theft of plants from a nursery in the 1000 block of S. Grand Avenue. Officers responded to the nursery at 11:53 p.m. after someone reported seeing a flashlight shining in the nursery. Police found a nursery fence cut near a wash. A police helicopter searched from above, but did not locate anyone. The stolen plants were in a storage area of the retail nursery. Police were trying to determine how many plants were taken.

Tuesday, Feb. 8: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • At 6:31 a.m. Glendora Police recovered a Ford Acura stolen from Azusa after stopping a driver for racing with another car in the 400 block of W. Gladstone St. Police arrested Miguel Hernandez, 31, of Baldwin Park on suspicion of car theft and possessing stolen property in the vehicle. The driver of the other car involved in the race with Hernandez got away, Summers said.
  • At 5 p.m. after she took $2,300 out of the ATM account of an elderly terminally ill man she was caring for, said police Lt. Brian Summers. The arrest took place in a mobile home park in the 300 block of W. Route 66 where the man lives. Detective Shelly Schaiterer said the woman was a friend of the family and not part of a professional caretaking service.
  • Later in the day at 6:01 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a theft of golf clubs from a car in the 100 block of S. Lone Hill Ave.

 Wednesday, Feb. 9: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • Thieves broke into Apothecary Pharmacy, 303 W Foothill Blvd., and took a small amount of money left in the register for the night and stole some pharmaceuticals. Police responded at 1:45 a.m. to an alarm at the business. Investigators found a glass door shattered, Summers said.
  •  At 5:14 a.m. police arrested a man and woman on drug charges after making a traffic stop for false registration tags at the intersection of Barranca Ave. and Route 66. Police arrested David Mata, 35, of San Dimas and Mireyya Tereida, 18, a transient, on suspicion of possessing narcotics and a methamphetamine pipe.

 Thursday, Feb. 11: Lt. Rob Lamborghini on duty.

  •  At 10 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a non-injury rollover accident at the intersection of E. Juanita Ave. and S. Glendora Ave. An elderly woman ran a red light and clipped a pickup truck causing her vehicle to roll over. Both vehicles were heavily damaged, but neither the woman nor the driver of the pickup truck required hospitalization, Lamborghini said.
