Crime Blotter: a Random Gunshot, Shoplifting & a Woman Saved

Local police activity for the week of May 16 to May 22.

Monday, May 16: Lt. Brian Summers on duty.

  • Glendora Police reported that on the previous night, a Glendora woman was arrested after she i. Police believe that although she was not aiming at anyone, she fired the shot intentionally. Officers responded to the 100 block of South Akeley Drive at 7:56 p.m. and took Erin Sherman, 51, into custody.
  • At 5:56 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a shoplifter at Wal-Mart, 1950 Auto Center Drive. Officers took Kile Elia, 19, home city unknown, into custody. Because Elia had three previous petty theft convictions, he was charged with a felony, Summers said.
  • At 9:55 p.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a report of a motor scooter stolen form the car port of a home in the 300 block of Glendora Avenue. No arrests have been made.

Tuesday, May 17: Lt. Joe Ward on duty.

  • At 5:34 Glendora Police responded to a shoplifter at Wal-Mart, 1950 Auto Center Drive. Police arrested Michael Hoar, 56, of Huntington Beach. Ward said the suspect attempted to use a previous receipt to obtain jeans and two bottles of vodka.

  • At 10:57 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of graffiti sprayed in the 800 block of East Sierra Madre Ave.

Friday, May 20: Lt. Rob Lamborghini on duty.

  • At 12:10 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a suspicious female subject near the Home Depot store at 1305 S. Lone Hill Ave. When police arrived the woman ran and hid, but was located. A search of her vehicle turned up two grams of methamphetamine. Officers arrested Wendy Staggs, 42, a transient for possession of a controlled substance. They also determined that she had a warrant out of San Bernardino for $150,000.

  • A Glendora Police officer helped revive at Glendora High School after crossing the street from the St. Dorothy Church Oak Tree Festival shortly after midnight. The high school is across South Valley Center Avenue from the festival. Arriving at 12:25 a.m., the officer applied CPR, Summers said. Fearing she might be suffering from arrhythmia, the officer then began treatment with an automated external defibrillator, which Glendora Police carry in their cars.
  • At 8:20 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a car stolen from a driveway in the 2300 block of East Club Vista Drive. The vehicle is a tan, 2002 Toyota Corolla.
  • At 9:16 a.m. Glendora Police responded to a report of a vehicle burglary at the intersection of Glendora Mountain and Big Dalton Canyon roads. The burglar smashed a window to get into the car. It was not immediately known what was taken.
