Crash Takes Down Telephone Pole in Azusa

The Friday crash knocked the telephone pole off its base, leaving it hanging on power lines.

A vehicle crashed into a telephone pole near the Azusa/Glendora border, knocking out power to nearby residents and closing Citrus Avenue for several hours Friday morning.

The crashed occurred at around 9 a.m. when a Chevy Suburban plowed into a telephone pole on Citrus Avenue near Gladstone street in Azusa, knocking it off its base and leaving it hanging only by the upper wires, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officer Mike Mehr said the crash affected multiple telephone polls, causing a power outage in the area.

Citrus Avenue between Arrow Highway and Gladstone Street will remain closed to traffic for about six to eight hours, Mehr said.

The driver of the vehicle suffered minor injuries and was transported to Foothill Presbyterian Hospital in Glendora.

CHP is currently investigating what caused the car to crash into the pole, Mehr said.
