City Issues Mandatory Evacuation Orders for Residents Near Colby Fire Burn Area

Residents of both cities were advised that they could use an evacuation center that was established at the Crowther Teen & Family Center at 241 W. Dawson Ave.

The cities of Glendora and Azusa imposed mandatory evacuation orders today for residents near the Colby Fire burn area because of fears of possible debris and mud flows.

In Glendora, the order affected residents in an area north Sierra Madre Avenue between the western city boundaries of Azusa/Glendora to the eastern boundary of properties on the west side of Little Dalton Wash.

In Azusa, the orders affected residents on Ridge View Drive.

Residents of both cities were advised that they could use an evacuation center that was established at the Crowther Teen & Family Center at 241 W. Dawson Ave.

Azusa police said that although there were no evacuations ordered for the Mountain Cove community, residents were urged to take precautionary measures, including voluntarily evacuating before the next storm.

"Many deaths occur during a landslide when people are sleeping," according to Azusa police. "Due to the timing of this order, coupled with the impending evening anticipated storm, we strongly encourage you to leave your residence."
