The city has hired a surveying and engineering firm to study a possible bridge widening project on Lone Hill Avenue.
The work sought would include adding shoulders to the road, widening of sidewalks, replacing existing bridge rails and adding retaining walls to widen the bridge, which runs over the San Dimas Wash, city officials said.
Originally built in the 1950s, the bridge's sufficiency rating has deteriorated to a level that would qualify for federal/state assistance, with matching funds from the city. An initial plan was approved by Caltrans and $50,00 was allocated for preliminary work, city officials said.
Selection requirements are different under Caltrans' guidelines, which rank firms on their technical proposals. The most qualified was Hernandez, Kroone & Associates, Inc., based in San Bernardino, with a fee proposal of $49,504.25, city officials said.
The project is scheduled to be completed in a three-month time span.
