Burglaries, Fights and DUI Arrests Round Out Busy Night Before Super Bowl For Police

Police arrest a dozen people heading into Super Bowl Sunday.

Super Bowl weekend marked a spike in local crime, with Glendora police making a dozen arrests even before most Super Bowl parties began.

Police arrested a dozen people on various offenses Saturday night into Sunday that ranged from car thefts and burglaries to fights, drug charges, possession of graffiti tools and driving under the influence.

The DUI arrests started at 7:25 p.m. and concluded at 3 a.m. with a total of six people arrested for drunken driving.

At 12:19 a.m. police responded to a fight between two groups of youths in the 500 block of E. Haltern. After breaking up the fight, police arrested four in one group on charges ranging from warrants to public intoxication and possession of graffiti tools.

Two were arrested in the second group, one for possessing graffiti tools and another for possessing ecstasy for sale.

In addition to the arrests, police had a very busy night responding to reports of car break-ins. At 10:30 p.m. police responded to two cars that were broken into in the 700 block of E. Plymouth St. Side windows were smashed out on both cars.

A GPS unit was taken from one of the vehicles. Nothing was reported taken from the other vehicle.

At 7:57 a.m. Sunday a white 1996 Dodge Caravan was stolen from the 100 block of S. Treanor Ave. A woman left the keys in the unlocked car while she unloaded kids and food. The car was stolen form the home’s driveway, said Lt. Brian Summers. The vehicle contained the woman’s wallet, he said.

At 9:23 a.m. Sunday morning, police responded to a vehicle burglary in the 1100 block of E. Bennett Ave. Police are still trying to determine what items were taken.

“We’ve been very busy,” Summers said.
