Angry Soccer Player Allegedly Punches Referee, Hits Bystander With Car

An adult league soccer game at Pompei Park got out of hand Sunday.

An adult league soccer game was interrupted by a play of some unsportsmanlike conduct Sunday morning, according to Glendora Police.

Glendora Police received a call of a hit-and-run at Louie Pompei Park at around 11 a.m. Sunday morning.

A soccer player competing in a Claremont Adult Soccer League game apparently didn’t like the referee’s call and punched the referee, said Lt. Joe Ward.

The player was ejected from the game, but when the player tried to leave the park in his vehicle some witnesses tried to keep him from leaving before police arrived.

Ward said the suspect allegedly bumped into one of the bystanders with his car and left the scene. The person was not injured in the hit and run incident.
