How to Make Easter Dessert With Your Kids

Learn to make candy filled rice crispy Easter eggs.

I made this dessert last year for my family and it was a huge hit. While I haven’t tried it with my daughter (she’s not even 2 yet), I know it will become a yearly tradition soon.

You’ll need:

6 cups rice crispy cereal
1 10-ounce bag of marshmallows
3 tablespoons of butter
1+ medium sized plastic Easter eggs

Before you begin, wash the plastic Easter eggs thoroughly, dry, then lightly coat the inside of the egg with butter.

Next, make the standard Rice Crispy treat recipe found on the box of cereal:

  • Melt butter on a low heat in a large pan.
  • Add marshmallows. Keep stirring until completely melted.
  • Remove from heat and mix in cereal.

Let the mixture cool for a couple of minutes. I recommend putting a little butter on your hands for this next part.

Place cereal mixture into each side of the plastic eggs. Press and mold the cereal treat into the egg. Do this on each side and be sure to leave a hollow center within the cereal treat egg.

Let them cool a couple more minutes then add candy to the hollow center of the egg. Any small candy will do, but I use M&Ms.

Place the two sides together, closing the egg. The cereal treat mixture should be right to the edge of the egg, allowing the two side to connect when placed together. Let them sit for about 20 minutes to dry.

Open the egg carefully and remove your cereal treat Easter Eggs. The two sides should be stuck together tight enough to present on a plate, but easy enough to crack open for the candy inside. You might need to reform dented or oddly shaped eggs, but it is easy to do.
