Soldier from La Verne Killed In Action

Pfc. Jose Oscar Belmontes, 28, died Saturday while serving in Afghanistan.

An Army soldier from La Verne was killed over the weekend during fighting in Afghanistan, the U.S. Department of Defense announced today.

Pfc. Jose Oscar Belmontes, 28, died Saturday from small arms fire in Wardak province, according to the DOD.

Belmontes was assigned to the 630th Engineer Company, 7th Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade at Fort Drum, New York.
