Obituary: Glendora Resident Richard L. Williams

Williams was a proud Glendoran from a family with strong local ties.

Richard “Dick” Louis Williams, a longtime Glendoran and great-grandson of H.A. Williams, the first mayor of Azusa, died of organ failure Oct. 14 at Foothill Presbyterian Hospital. He was 77 years old.

Williams was born on Jan. 6, 1935 in Covina, Calif. Williams’ family is deeply rooted in Glendora and Azusa history, dating back to the pioneer era. In 1888, the Williams family owned the Williams Grocery store in Azusa, one of the first businesses in the area.

Williams graduated from Citrus Union High School and went on to work as a sales manager for Henry Vogt Machine Company. Williams retired in 2000 after 65 years.

Williams is survived by his wife of 52 years, Andrea Williams; his son Brian Richard Williams; his daughter Michele Arnal; and his three grandsons Matt, Chris and Austin.

The memorial service for Williams is Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Oakdale Mortuary at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation to the Lupus Foundation of America.

Go, go GPD. It is nice to be appreciated, but even better when someone acknowledges it.
