DUI Checkpoint Scheduled for Friday

CHP to hold checkpoint in unincorporated Covina.

The California Highway Patrol will conduct a sobriety checkpoint to take place in an unincorporated area of Covina this Friday.

The checkpoint is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and will be staffed by officers trained to detect alcohol and/or impaired drivers, according to a CHP press release. Drivers will first see informational signs alerting them to the checkpoint ahead. Once pulled over, officers will detain drivers for a few minutes while officers explain the purposes of the checkpoint.

Officers will also be equipped with handheld breathalyzer equipment which provide an accurate analysis of a drunk driver's blood-alcohol level.

Traffic volume permitting, all vehicles will be checked.  If volume becomes too heavy, vehicles to be checked will be selected by a pre-set standard (such as every 3rd or 5th vehicle) to assure objectivity, according to the CHP.
