Deputy Saves Choking Baby at Bonelli Park

Originally on location helping a child with a head injury, Deputies were approached by a hysterical mother asking to save her child.

A 15-month-old girl is alive today thanks to the work of a San Dimas Sheriff's deputy who administered aid after the baby began choking.

The incident occurred just after 5:30 p.m., Friday, at Frank G. Bonelli Regional Park, 120 Via Verde Drive in San Dimas. A Deputy rushed over to the child after her mother ran screaming for help. The deputy quickly saw she was blue and not breathing. The deputy found and dislodged food from the girl's airway. She is doing fine this morning.

Deputies from the Sheriff's Parks Bureau were already at the park with Los Angeles County life guards administering aid to a child with a head injury when the mother of the choking girl approached them, according to a Sheriff's Department press release.

The baby was taken to an area hospital by Los Angeles County Fire personnel and the girl has since been home with family.
