Blog: 250 Easter Baskets to Be Given Away
Easter baskets for chilldren, the Easter Bunny, free hams and more highlight Sowing Seeds for Life event Wednesday in La Verne.
Sowing Seeds for Life, a regional food bank founded in 2007 by Glendora resident Vicki Brown, will hold its sixth annual Easter Basket giveaway Wednesday, March 20, from 3 to 5 p.m. in the DPI Labs parking lot at 1350 Arrow Highway in La Verne.
Some 250 Easter baskets filled with goodies will be given away to children during a special Sowing Seeds for Life food pantry. SSFL, as it is known for short, holds food pantries at DPI on the first and third Wednesday of every month.
At this Wednesday’s food pantry, in addition to getting Easter baskets, children will also have an opportunity to get a photo with the Easter Bunny. And the food pantry giveaway will include hams donated by Target and the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank, along with the usual fare of pork, chicken, canned goods, produce and water.

Sowing Seeds for Life provides some 6,000 needy people with food, clothing and services each month. Brown is also the CEO and president of DPI Labs, an aerospace manufacturing company.
Some two dozen volunteers assembled by DPI Labs Saturday to create the Easter baskets from scratch and fill them with goodies.

Greg Tatsch of La Verne donated the index stock paper that was cut and stabled into “baskets” that in turn were decorated with paint and stickers. The baskets were then transported from the DPI parking lot into the DPI building where volunteers filled them.
The volunteers included students from the Damien High Service Outreach Club, members of the Holy Name of Mary Church’s chapter of the St. Vincent DePaul Society, and Sowing Seeds for Life supporters, headed by Jan Inger and Tina Aldaco of La Verne, Mary Moody of Glendora, and Paulette Young of Pomona.
The goodies for the baskets included cookies from Jersey Mike’s, candy eggs from Wal-Mart, chocolate bunnies from the St. Vincent DePaul Society, Peeps marshmallow candies from the David and Margaret Family Services Home, and coloring books and crayons from students at the Holy Name of Mary Elementary School.
Other contributors and sponsors of Wednesday’s event include Warehouse Pizza, Little Cesar's, Pizza Hut, Pizza ’n Stuff, Togo’s, Zendejas’ restaurant, and the Diamond’s Love Foundation of Pomona.
