Boy Scout Troop to Host Flag Retirement Ceremony

Residents can donate old flags for proper retirement at the ceremony.

The 27th annual , conducted by Boy Scout Troop 483 and the Serrano Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16 at the, 201 East Bennett Avenue in Glendora.

According to Boy Scout Committeeman Gordon Rowley, “When American flags are deemed unserviceable, they are to be retired and destroyed with respectful and honorable rites. This is accomplished by first burning the flags and then burying the ashes.”

An open invitation is extended to the community to witness the traditional flag retirement ceremony.

If residents have flags that need to be retired, they may take them to:

  • D.A.R. Headquarters, 201 W. Bennett Avenue, Glendora

Flags may be brought to the June 11 ceremony.
