Free Air and Wear Pitstop

Passenger car and light-duty truck owners are invited to a drive-through “Air and Wear Pitstop” at Citrus College on Friday, June 10 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

This free event is being hosted by the Citrus College Automotive Technology Technicians’ Development Center (TDC) in observance of National Tire Safety Week, a week-long effort spearheaded by tire manufacturers to educate motorists about proper tire care.

The clinic will be held in the Citrus College Technician Development (TD) Building, which is located at 1000 W. Foothill Blvd. in Glendora.  Drivers will enter the campus off of Barranca Avenue and exit through the Citrus College Northeast Parking Lot (S9).

“We are providing a complimentary and hassle-free drive-through service where the public can have their vehicle tires inspected for proper wear and pressure.  Tires that are over or under the manufacturers recommended pressure will be adjusted for the driver,” said James Lancaster, dean of career, technical and continuing education at Citrus College and the event’s organizer.

According to a brochure entitled “Be Tire Smart, Play Your Part,” which is produced by the Rubber Manufacturers Association, it is important to have the proper inflation pressure in your tires.

“Under-inflation or overloading of tires creates excessive stress and heat, which can lead to tire failure.  This could result in vehicle damage and/or serious injury or death,” the brochure states.  “Over-inflation of tires can make the tires more susceptible to road hazard damage and pose vehicle handling issues.”

The pitstop will be staffed by students in the TDC.

“We would like to educate the public about the importance, benefits and safety related to well-maintained tires,” Lancaster said.  “We are not selling anything except tire safety.  In fact, drivers will not have to get out of their cars.  All you have to do is simply drive up, open your door and allow us to obtain the recommended tire inflation pressure, and in about two minutes you will be on your way.”
